Expense Tracker | Last updated: October, 2026
Expense Tracker ("we", "our", or "us") operates the Expense Tracker mobile application. This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information when you use our Service.
Expense Tracker is an offline-first app. The financial data you enter — transactions, account names and balances, credit card and loan details, categories and notes — is stored only on your device. We operate no servers, so we do not collect, receive, or have access to your financial information. This data is never transmitted to us.
The app does not require you to create an account, and we do not ask you to register. There is no sign-up, no email address, and no password.
The free version of the app displays ads served by Google AdMob. To serve and measure ads, Google may collect your device's advertising ID, and may share information such as your device model and operating system version, your approximate location, and your in-app activity with Google and its advertising partners as described in Google's Privacy Policy.
Your financial data is never shared with Google or with advertisers. Advertising is not personalized using your transactions, accounts, or any financial information you enter into the app.
If you purchase one of the one-time "support the developer" tiers, ads are removed from the app and no further advertising data is collected.
Your financial data is stored locally on your device as JSON in the app's private storage. This data does not leave your device unless you choose to move it, in one of three ways:
• Backup — you write a backup file yourself to the app's private storage or save a copy to a location of your choosing, and you can optionally back up to your own Google Drive (section 5).
• CSV export — you export to a file that is saved wherever you choose.
• Share — you share a CSV or backup file to another app of your choosing.
Data stored on the device is not encrypted at rest. Anyone with access to your unlocked device or a copy of your backup file can read its contents. We recommend protecting your device with a screen lock and storing backup files in a private location.
The app does not request the MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE ("All files access") permission.
• Local backups — automatic and manual backups are kept in the app's private storage, which does not require any permission. This storage is deleted when the app is uninstalled.
• Public backups — every backup is also saved automatically to a public folder named "ExpenseTracker" so it survives uninstalling the app and can be found automatically after a reinstall: On Android 10 and later, this folder is in your device's public Downloads folder and the files are managed by the operating system's media store. They are owned by the app, so it can write, read, list, and delete only those files it created and no storage permission is required. On Android 8 and 9 (the only versions that do not support that media-store access), the folder is in shared storage and the app requests the standard WRITE and READ EXTERNAL STORAGE permissions at runtime, solely to create, list, and read the backup files in that folder. Those permissions are limited to Android 9 and below, so they are never requested on Android 10 and later.
• Save Backup to a File — you can also save a backup copy to any location you choose using the system file picker. This copy is owned by you, is not tied to the app, and survives uninstalling the app.
• Restore — you can restore from the public backup copy automatically, from a saved file selected with the system file picker, or from Google Drive.
The system file picker is operated by the operating system; the app never reads or writes any files outside of the backup folders it manages or the files you explicitly select or save. This is the only way the app accesses files on the device.
The app offers an optional Google Drive backup feature. If you choose to enable it, your financial data is uploaded to your personal Google Drive account using your own Google credentials, via Google's sign-in flow. We never see your Google password.
This backup is stored in your Google Drive's private app data folder and is not shared with us. Signing in to Drive involves Google processing your account data under Google's own privacy policy. You can sign out or disable this feature at any time in Settings.
The app offers optional one-time in-app purchases to remove ads. Purchases are processed by Google Play Billing through RevenueCat, which transmits your device's app installation identifier so purchases can be restored on your devices. Your financial or transaction data is never sent to RevenueCat or Google. We receive no personal information from purchase processors, only confirmation that an entitlement is active.
We do not sell or trade personal information, and we do not share your financial data with anyone. The only third party that receives information from the app is Google, in the three narrow ways described above: ad serving (section 2), optional Drive backup (section 5), and purchase processing (section 6).
Your financial data lives only on your device. To delete it:
• Uninstall the app. This removes all data held in the app's private storage, including local backups.
• Delete any backup copies you saved outside the app, including the "ExpenseTracker" folder (in your Downloads folder on Android 10+, or at your device's storage root on Android 8/9).
• To remove a Google Drive backup, sign out of the backup feature or delete it from your Google Drive's app data.
Because we store and process nothing on our end, there is no data held by us that would need a deletion request.
Our Service is not directed to anyone under the age of 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. The app is intended for adults managing their own finances.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the updated Privacy Policy on this page.
